Director of Sales & Marketing

The Director of Sales & Marketing has overall responsibility for total revenue and yield strategies, implementation and results including group and transient rooms, group food and beverage, meeting room rental, outlet, and other revenues.  Strategies will include market mix, pricing, status, direct sales, marketing, and acquisition status and results.  Maximize profitability for the hotel and outstanding quality service for the customers.  Accountable to market performance and potential performance as well as budget, forecast, and target goals.  Participate in total hotel management as a member of the hotel Executive Committee.


 w  Direct and manage all group sales activities to maximize revenue for the hotel.

w  Prepare, implement and compile data for the strategic sales plan, month-end reports, annual goals, sales and marketing budget, forecasts and other reports as directed/required.

w  Develop rates, group ceilings and deployment strategies through review of competitive data, demand analysis and mix management.

w  Recruit, direct, manage, train and counsel sales staff. Oversee departmental matters as they relate to federal, state and local employment and civil rights laws.

w  Actively participate in sales presentations, property tours and customer meetings.

w  Conduct/attend daily business review meetings, weekly strategic sales meetings, management meetings and other meetings as required/ requested.

w  Manage/direct all advertising, public relations and promotional activities.

w  Implement sales policies and procedures as developed in the annual Marketing Plan.

w  Establish priorities for all sales and marketing programs and projects.

w  Achieve and exceed individual and team annual goals as established by the annual Marketing Plan.

w  Be fully knowledgeable of the role of rooms merchandising as it pertains to overall revenue and to periodically evaluate, assess, and revise the parameters of the program.

w  Achieve budgeted revenues and expenses and maximize profitability related to the sales department.

w  Develop short- and long-term financial and operational plans for the sales department that relate to the overall objectives of the hotel.

w  Participate in the preparation of the annual hotel budget.

w  Increase level of guest satisfaction by delivery of an exceptional product through employee development.

w  Maintain and correct procedures for credit control, financial transactions, and security of financial assets, see that PCI Compliance is followed as directed by hotel controller and or corporate directive.

w  Respond and resolve guest requests, complaints, or questions in a courteous and timely manner. Hold subordinates accountable for same.

w  Works closely with the DOC in meeting common goals, oversees the department for all established performances. 


Schedule - Generally Monday - Friday 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., however, must be able to work varying shifts based on business and client demand, including weekends and holidays and necessary.

Education - Bachelor's Degree preferred.


w  Seven to ten years of sales and marketing leadership in similar sized operation preferred. Have had some experience in supervising and or direct contact with IBT, Convention Services and catering function.

w  Comprehensive knowledge of market position, banquet and food and beverage revenues, pricing and rate structures, sales strategies, yield management, booking trends, and future hotel planning.

w  Be fully knowledgeable of competitive markets outside the area.

w  Be fully knowledgeable of the capabilities and limitations of the hotel and departments that may impact sales strategies.

w  Must have a comprehensive knowledge of all hotel departments and functions.
